Border Conflict Severely Damages Thailand's Tourism Industry

Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, Soraon, revealed to the media on the 6th that the Thai-Cambodian border conflict has led to a decrease of about 3 billion baht (approximately 392 million ringgit) in monthly tourism revenue for Thailand during the conflict period.

Soraon stated that more than 5,000 hotel bookings by foreign tourists have been canceled because they believe the current situation is unsafe. Most of the canceled reservations are concentrated in seven provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border.

In Ubon Ratchathani Province, many hotels have temporarily closed until August 4, and all group tour bookings have been canceled. At the Chong Sa-Ngam border in Si Sa Ket Province, the border checkpoint remains closed, causing a severe impact on the tourism industry, with travel groups also canceling all hotel reservations.

Along the border in Surin Province, hotels have temporarily closed, and 80% of group bookings have been canceled. Many hotels are providing free or discounted accommodation to evacuees. The previously scheduled marathon in the province has been postponed, leading to a sharp decline in tourism revenue. This situation has affected travel companies, car rental services, and hotels alike.

In Buri Ram Province, several border hotels have temporarily closed. Some hotels are working with government agencies to offer special rates for evacuees. The number of tourist bookings has dropped by 70%, and major attractions such as Phanom Rung Temple and Muang Tam Temple have closed. All events at Chang International Circuit have also been postponed.

Hotels and attractions in Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces have also been extremely severely affected.
