Fighting Monsters Side by Side with Lee Min-ho: Jisoo Faces Criticism for 5-Minute Cameo in New Film

The South Korean sci-fi action film "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint," which cost 30 billion KRW (approximately RM91.45 million) to produce, is adapted from a popular web novel. The story depicts the novel's world suddenly becoming reality, with Korean male star Ahn Hyo-seop—the novel's sole reader—joining forces with the novel's main character Lee Min-ho and companions Chae Soo-bin, NaNa, Shin Seung-ho, and others on a journey to change the fate of Lee Min-ho's character, who originally survives alone. BLACKPINK's Jisoo plays a high school student with formidable combat skills, who frequently teams up with Lee Min-ho to fight monsters and overcome numerous crises.

The film is set to premiere next Wednesday and recently held a press screening. Even though Jisoo doesn’t have much screen time—appearing for only about five minutes—her acting has once again sparked controversy after the screening, leading to negative buzz before the film’s release. Some netizens commented, "Her visuals fit the role, but her enunciation and pronunciation were extremely awkward," and "Fortunately, her scenes are quite limited and don't fatally damage the film, but they still break the audience's immersion." Director Kim Byung-woo recently admitted in an interview that he is aware of the controversy over Jisoo's acting, but insists he made the right casting choice: "This character appears very late and doesn’t have much screen time. If it wasn’t Jisoo, the role would absolutely lack presence!" Remaining unbothered by the criticism, Jisoo shared photos on social media of herself at BLACKPINK’s concert in Los Angeles and snapshots taken there.
