KUCHING: A multipurpose hall worth over RM20 million, being built for the Sarawak Malay National Association (PKMS) in Jalan Patingan here, is slated for completion in March 2026.

PKMS’ President, Dr Wan Ali Tuanku Madhi, said the facility, with a capacity of 1,200 people, will serve as a hub for community and cultural programmes.

He said the project’s progress was conveyed to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a courtesy call at Satria Pertiwi Complex today.

“The construction works are ongoing, and we expect the hall to be fully completed by March 2026.

“The hall is located in front of the Land and Survey Department’s boat storage facility which is near the Kafaz River Residence, and it will be equipped with modern facilities,” he told the media after the meeting.

He also invited the Premier to attend the Borneo Marhaban Festival and Sarawak Zikir Marhaban Competition, scheduled on November 1 and 2 at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre.

He said the inaugural festival will gather participants from across Sarawak as well as Sabah, Brunei and several regions in Kalimantan.

“The festival will involve teams from Sanggau, Kota Singkawang, Sambas, Mempawah, Sekadau and East Kalimantan,” he said.

On the same note, he noted that a Zikir Marhaban Competition will be organised for the second time, following its first edition in September 2023 at Raia Hotel.

During the discussion with the Premier, PKMS also emphasised on education programmes and youth-focused initiatives as among the association’s core priorities.
