Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar from April 22 to 26, and, together with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun, will attend the first China-Cambodia “2+2” Strategic Dialogue meeting.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated in Beijing on the 21st that during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Cambodia in April last year, consensus was reached with Cambodian leaders to establish the “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism, reflecting the high level of strategic relationship between the two countries.

He pointed out that previously, China had already established a similar mechanism with Indonesia and will hold the first meeting in Beijing on April 21, 2025; in addition, China has also established a “3+3” mechanism covering foreign affairs, defense, and public security with Vietnam, which began in mid-March this year.

Guo Jiakun said that under the current turbulent and changing international situation, the “2+2” mechanism will help China and Cambodia strengthen strategic communication, respond to external challenges, and promote the building of a more robust community of shared destiny.

It is introduced that during the talks, Wang Yi and Dong Jun will conduct in-depth exchanges on bilateral relations, political and defense cooperation, as well as international and regional situations, and will meet with Cambodian leaders.

The Chinese side emphasized that it will make good use of this strategic communication platform to promote high-quality development and high-level security, and to achieve long-term stability and prosperity for both sides.

Regarding the visits to Thailand and Myanmar, Guo Jiakun pointed out that all three countries are currently at critical stages of development, with Cambodia advancing its “Pentagonal Strategy” and newly formed governments in both Thailand and Myanmar. China hopes that this visit will implement leaders’ consensus and deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation.

He added that the friendly relations between China and the three countries will inject more momentum into regional peace, stability, and development, and bring substantive benefits to the peoples of all countries.
