KOTA SAMARAHAN: Nearly one million Sarawakians were among the 3.2 million applicants for training programmes at the Ministry of Health Training Institute (ILKKM) this year.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the figure represented a five per cent increase compared to 2024.
He said about 1,900 Sarawakians were currently undergoing training at ILKKM nationwide, making up 20 per cent of total trainees.
“This proves that the health sector is becoming a preferred choice among Sarawakian youths while strengthening the country’s frontline health services,” he said during the ILKKM 2025 Convocation Ceremony for Sarawak Zone held at DeTAR Putra, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), here today (Oct 18).
The convocation concluded this year’s ILKKM graduation series nationwide, involving 710 graduates in Sarawak and a total of 6,316 graduates across the country.
As such, Lukanisman reaffirmed that ILKKM would continue to spearhead the production of skilled manpower for the healthcare sector in line with growing national demand.
He also noted that 108 graduates nationwide received excellence awards this year, with 16 recipients from Sarawak ceremony honoured with the Academic Excellence Award.
“The knowledge you have gained is not merely to pass examinations, but to lead change and build a more inclusive and resilient healthcare system.
“We want to produce health professionals who do not just work, but truly dedicate their service to the people,” he said.
Lukanisman urged graduates to uphold and spread noble values in their decisions and service delivery, emphasising their role in shaping a quality and sustainable future for healthcare.
He expressed hope that more Sarawakian youths would join the ministry’s medical and health services, continuing to serve the people in the state.
