The United States Central Command issued a statement on the 26th stating that the US military launched strikes against Iran that day in response to the attack on a merchant vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz the previous day.
The statement said that on the 26th, the US military deployed fighter jets to strike Iran's missile and drone storage facilities as well as coastal radar positions.
Previously, on the 25th, Iran used a one-way attack drone to strike a Singapore-flagged cargo ship that was leaving the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast.
The statement accused Iran's actions against merchant vessels of violating the ceasefire agreement, and said the US military would continue to provide coordination and support for the safe passage of merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. The US military will continue to maintain its presence and vigilance to ensure all agreements reached between the US and Iran are implemented and remain effective.
According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the United States violated the ceasefire agreement and memorandum of understanding with Iran by striking the Sirik area.
The report, quoting local sources, said that around 11:30 p.m. local time on the 26th, multiple explosions occurred in the Sirik area of Hormozgan Province.
