On the 26th, the Seoul Central District Court issued a first-instance verdict in the case of former President Yoon Suk-yeol’s wife, Kim Keon-hee, who was suspected of selling official posts. She was sentenced to seven years in prison.
On May 15th, the special counsel requested the court to sentence Kim Keon-hee to seven years and six months in prison and confiscate her illegal gains in connection with this case.
The special counsel pointed out that the related offenses refer to the defendant, as the spouse of the president, privately trading various presidential authorities and repeatedly accepting property in acts of selling official posts.
On April 28th, in the appeal of Kim Keon-hee’s first case, the court found her guilty of violating the Capital Markets Act and the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, and sentenced her to four years in prison with a fine for manipulating stock prices and brokering bribery, among other offenses.
