(Kuala Belait, 24th) The Lions Club of Kuala Belait, Brunei, recently held a grand celebration of its 50th Anniversary (Golden Jubilee) at the banquet hall of the V Plaza Hotel in Kuala Belait. The event opened with a welcoming speech by the Kuala Belait Lions Club President, Chang Fucai. He expressed gratitude to all past presidents, members, and the wider community for their support over the years, and pledged to continue upholding the Lions Club’s mission of serving the community and contributing to its well-being.
Jiang Lirong, President of the sister club, Miri Lambir Lions Club of Sarawak, then gave a speech and exchanged souvenirs with Chang Fucai, symbolizing the deep friendship between the two clubs and their joint commitment to community service over the years.

The host then gave a grand introduction to the guest of honor—Lions Clubs International President, Mark Lyon. Amid resounding applause, Mark Lyon entered the venue and delivered a keynote speech. Chang Fucai also presented a souvenir to Mark Lyon as a gesture of respect.
In his speech, Mark Lyon remarked that the Kuala Belait Lions Club’s 50th anniversary not only signifies the passage of time but also reflects the members’ steadfast commitment to the Lions Club's service mission. He pointed out that Lions Clubs International has a history of 109 years, and for a single club to continuously serve a changing community for half a century, with some charter members still actively involved, is a remarkable achievement.
He said the Lions Club should continue to take root in the community so that the “tree of service” grows stronger, resilient against the tides of change and various challenges, while remaining centered on humanitarian service for positive social change.
He also noted that the Kuala Belait Lions Club currently has about 40 members, and expressed hope that the club will continue to grow, expand its impact, help more people in need, and keep supporting and giving back to the beloved community.
The banquet featured a rich program. All past presidents appeared on stage one by one, joining guests in reflecting on the club’s 50-year journey. The event also saw the presentation of long service awards and souvenirs to honor members for their sustained dedication.
As the golden jubilee anniversary cake was slowly brought out—symbolizing the momentous occasion—all guests offered their congratulations in unison, and the cake-cutting ceremony, filled with cheers and applause, became the evening’s climax. Attendees raised their glasses in celebration and took group photos to commemorate this extraordinary moment.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks from former president Yang Xiaolan, expressing gratitude to the organizing committee, sponsors, guests, and all members for their support and participation. She expressed her hope that the Kuala Belait Lions Club will continue to uphold its original service aspiration and together move towards another brilliant fifty years.
