(Bandar Seri Begawan, 23rd) Brunei's Foreign Minister Prince Martin attended the ASEAN Ministerial Meetings (PMC) held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, and respectively held ministerial meetings with multiple ASEAN dialogue partners to exchange views on regional cooperation and international issues.
On the same day, Prince Martin attended ministerial meetings between ASEAN and India, the United States, China, Japan, and Australia, and in the evening attended the UK-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting.
As the coordinator country for ASEAN-EU dialogue relations, Prince Martin, together with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, jointly chaired discussions after the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting.
During the meeting, Prince Martin emphasized that trade and economic cooperation are key pillars of the ASEAN-EU strategic partnership, and highlighted the importance of advancing negotiations for an ASEAN-EU Free Trade Agreement to enhance the economic resilience of both sides and achieve supply chain diversification.
He also stressed that strengthening people-to-people exchanges is vital for maintaining the dynamism of bilateral relations, and suggested expanding scholarships, internships, and professional exchange opportunities to further deepen the ties and cooperation between ASEAN and the EU.
