(Kuching, 8th) A Sarawak-born police officer was shot and stabbed by a suspect early yesterday morning while on crime prevention patrol. Police subsequently found a female corpse in the suspect’s car at Simpang Pulai, Perak.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisan Noordin stated in a press release that the incident occurred at around 1:15am. At that time, a Simpang Pulai Police Station patrol team spotted a suspicious vehicle at Taman Desa Pakatan.
When officers attempted to intercept the car, the suspect suddenly sped off, sparking a chase that ended in an oil palm plantation. A struggle ensued as officers tried to arrest the suspect.
“During the process, one officer’s service weapon was seized by the suspect, who shot the officer in the abdomen.”
“The officer was also stabbed, after which the suspect fled with the firearm,” said Noor Hisan.
The injured officer, from Sarawak, is married with two young children and is currently in stable condition, receiving treatment at Sultanah Bahiyah Ipoh Hospital (HRPB).
Upon further inspection of the suspect’s car, police found the body of an unidentified female in the back seat. A post-mortem will be conducted at the HRPB forensic unit to confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 (murder) and Section 307 (attempted murder) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
Police are making every effort to track down the suspect and urge anyone with information to contact investigating officer ASP Fadli Ahmad at 012-2500019.
“The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will never compromise with any party involved in serious crime. We are intensifying efforts to ensure the suspect is brought to justice as soon as possible,” Noor Hisan emphasized.
