(Kuching, 7th) As of 10am today, the Air Pollution Index (API) in Samarahan and Kuching, Sarawak, has reached 135 and 133 points respectively, entering the unhealthy level.

According to data from the Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS), all monitoring stations in Sarawak are currently recording moderate level indices. Among them, Sarikei's index has reached 90 points, which is close to the unhealthy level; Sibu and Sri Aman are at 86 points respectively, while Bintulu stands at 83 points.

In addition, Mukah recorded 76 points, Samalaju 75 points, Miri 66 points, ILP Miri (Miri Industrial Training Institute) and Kapit 60 points, and Limbang 57 points. As for the data from the Serian monitoring station, it is temporarily unavailable.

Previously, Sarawak Meteorological Department Director Khairul Najib stated that due to transboundary haze from West Kalimantan, coupled with the current monsoon carrying southeasterly winds, the haze situation in many areas of Sarawak is expected to persist.

He said that the current weather pattern, together with detected hotspots in West Kalimantan, are the main factors causing the hazy conditions in Sarawak, especially affecting Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, and Kapit and other regions.
