(Sibu, 7th) — A shop house on Sernah Lane 8 in Sibu caught fire early this morning, causing severe damage to the second floor.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department's report, authorities received an alert at 4:05 a.m. and immediately dispatched firefighters from the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station to the scene, with support from the Sibu Central Fire and Rescue Station.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that the fire was limited to the second floor of the shop house.
Firefighters swiftly launched active firefighting efforts, using two hoses, each 100 feet long, and two water jets, with water sourced from a nearby hydrant. At the same time, firefighters set up a ladder to enable entry to the second floor to extinguish the flames.
The fire was brought under control at 4:39 a.m., and after confirming there were no remaining hot spots and the building was safe, firefighters ended the operation at 5:20 a.m.
The Fire and Rescue Department estimates that around 40% of the building was damaged by the fire, affecting an area of approximately 40 by 40 square feet.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
