BINTANGOR: The Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) Project of Dreams Realised Roadshow (ProDR) is a crucial platform to help students, especially those from rural areas, achieve their ambitions in the technical and digital sectors regardless of academic background.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, therefore urged students to seize the opportunities offered through the programme to support the state government’s goal of producing 500,000 skilled workers by 2030.

He made the call when officiating at the 10th series of the ProDR at SMK Bandar Bintangor Hall on Monday.

Ding, who is also a TEGAS Board of Trustees member, expressed appreciation to TEGAS, through the TEGAS Community Innovative Learning (TCIL), and to exhibitors from government agencies, higher learning institutions, as well as public and private skills training providers, including from Kuching.

Their participation, he said, reflects strong support in bringing technical education and future career information to the grassroots level.

The ProDR, which follows the Sarawak Career & Training Fair (SCat Fair) held on July 5 and 6, covers 14 locations statewide from July 23 to August 22, with Lundu as its final stop.

With a 31-day run and participation from over 30 institutions and agencies, Ding said the initiative demonstrates the Sarawak Government’s commitment to empowering youth across the state.

The programme features various high-impact activities, including an Education and Career Expo, motivational talks, PERKESO Career Clinics, the TEGAS Think & Thinker (T&T) Mini Lab, STEM Playground, and drone and robotics challenges.

Ding also highlighted the rapid growth of the global aerospace industry and Sarawak’s efforts to build capabilities in aviation, space technology, and satellite launches – including the establishment of the Aerospace Academy at CENTEXS Lundu and the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at i-CATS University College.

He stressed that parental support is crucial in guiding children to plan their education pathways early.

In line with this, Ding announced a RM15,000 allocation for the setting up of a T&T Mini Lab at SMK Bandar Bintangor to enhance education quality and encourage innovation among students.
