(Kuching, 28th) The Sarawak government remains committed to enhancing the education standards in rural areas by implementing the “Dilapidated Schools Reconstruction Plan.” This plan is funded under a special allocation of RM1 billion and aims to provide the next generation of Sarawakians with more modern, safe, and ideal learning facilities.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that the school reconstruction project is one of the Sarawak government’s strategic efforts to ensure all students have access to quality educational facilities.
“The school just now is part of the schools we are developing. In fact, we have paid RM1 billion to the federal government, which is part of the RM1 billion allocation we use to develop the schools. So far, approximately RM300 million has been used.”
He made these remarks during a working visit yesterday afternoon to SK Kampung Baru to inspect the dilapidated school reconstruction project, which has been fully completed by 2025.
During the visit, the Sarawak Premier listened to a briefing by the Sarawak Public Works Department on the project’s implementation and then personally inspected the completed teaching building, administrative building, and various brand-new facilities.
He also took time to interact with all teachers, students, and the local community, and visited an exhibition that showcased the project's progress and presented a comparison of the school before and after construction.
The RM12.84 million SK Kampung Baru reconstruction project was fully completed in 2025, consisting of a four-storey teaching block and a four-storey administrative block, all equipped with various modern facilities.
The provided facilities include classrooms, science labs, a resource center, teachers’ offices, administrative rooms, washrooms, as well as discussion spaces designed to create a more comfortable and ideal teaching and learning environment.
This project benefits 260 students and 33 teachers, successfully eliminating the dilapidated state of SK Kampung Baru and improving the well-being of both the school staff and students.
This working visit also reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to strengthening rural development by providing quality educational facilities, while ensuring that every Sarawakian child can enjoy a safe and modern learning environment.
