Lee Kim Shin: Cultivating Discipline and Team Spirit - Senadin Primary School Sports Day Concludes Successfully

(Miri, 28th) Sarawak’s Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that sports are not just a platform to compete for victory or medals, but more importantly, a way to cultivate students’ discipline, perseverance, and teamwork.

He said that through sports activities, students can learn to pick themselves up after failure and also learn to respect their opponents. These valuable qualities help shape good character and contribute to their all-round development, both academically and in life.

He made these remarks while delivering a speech at the closing ceremony of the 21st Senadin Primary School Sports Day 2026, held yesterday at Miri Outdoor Stadium.

Lee Kim Shin pointed out that the Sarawak government has always supported grassroots sports development and hopes to discover more potential young athletes through such activities, so they can one day represent Miri, Sarawak, or even the country on the international stage.

He also praised the school, teachers, parents, and students for their strong cooperation and dedication during the sports meet, which ensured the smooth running of the event.

"Just now, we witnessed each team display exemplary sportsmanship. To the students who won awards, I extend my congratulations and hope you keep striving. For those who did not win, do not be discouraged. Treat it as a valuable experience and motivation to work harder next year." 

He emphasized that failure is a stepping stone to success, encouraging students to remain positive and constantly challenge themselves.

In addition, he thanked the parents for their enthusiastic presence and cheering for the children, being their greatest source of support, and hoped that the spirit of sportsmanship would continue to thrive in schools.
