Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Malaysia Airlines have announced the launch of a brand new interline ticketing product and the integration of both airlines' route networks, in a move to further enhance air connectivity between Singapore and Malaysia as well as within the region, providing passengers with more fare and itinerary options.
The two airlines issued a joint statement on Monday (22nd) stating that, upon receiving approval from relevant regulatory authorities, the two parties officially implemented a strategic joint business partnership in January this year. This new interline ticketing product is a further upgrade based on their existing codeshare collaboration.
The statement noted that cooperation between the two parties is deepening. In addition to interline ticketing, they have also gradually introduced multiple passenger convenience measures, including reciprocal lounge access, coordinated flight schedules, and joint corporate travel arrangements, aiming to comprehensively enhance the travel experience for passengers.
Both sides emphasized their commitment to continuously strengthening air connectivity between Singapore and Malaysia, as well as across the wider region, to promote people-to-people exchanges and economic interaction.
SIA Chief Commercial Officer Lee Lik Hsin said that as the cooperation deepens, the two airlines will further integrate their advantage resources, elevate product and service standards, and create greater value for travelers.
He added that this move will also help to consolidate the longstanding cultural and economic ties between Singapore and Malaysia.
It is understood that SIA and Malaysia Airlines had already signed a commercial cooperation framework agreement as early as October 2019, and have been gradually expanding their scope of cooperation. Currently, the two companies have codeshare partnerships in Malaysia, Singapore, Europe, South Africa, and several other regions.
In addition, in April 2024, the two parties launched a mileage accrual mechanism, allowing members to earn and redeem mileage points on designated flights, further enhancing the flexibility and appeal of their frequent flyer programs.
