The Consulate General of Myanmar in Kunming, Yunnan, China stated that the Kunming ASEAN Association is interested in importing Myanmar-produced corn on a long-term, monthly basis through a business-to-business (B2B) model, opening up new export markets for the Myanmar corn industry.
According to information released by the Consulate General, the Kunming ASEAN Association has already inquired about the current market price of corn in Myanmar and has expressed a willingness to make long-term purchases.
In response, the Consulate General has informed domestic corn growers and exporters that enterprises that meet China’s quality and standard requirements and are interested in exporting corn to the Chinese market may contact the relevant person in charge for further discussions and cooperation.
The Myanmar Corn Industrial Association predicts that during the 2026-2027 fiscal year, Myanmar will actively promote corn exports, with the goal of exporting more than 1.3 million tons of corn to the international market.
Currently, Myanmar’s corn is mainly exported to countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, and India.
Industry insiders believe that if the Chinese market can establish long-term and stable demand, it will not only help expand Myanmar’s corn export scale, but also create new development opportunities for farmers and export enterprises.
They point out that China’s vast grain consumption market and continuously growing demand will become important drivers for the growth of Myanmar’s agricultural exports, and will further promote agricultural trade cooperation between the two countries.
As China’s procurement intentions gradually become clearer, the industry expects that Myanmar corn will likely gain greater market share in the future, enhancing the overall industry’s competitiveness and improving farmers’ income.
