China News Service reported on the 8th that, according to information from China’s Ministry of Public Security on the 8th, recently, with the in-depth advancement of the joint law enforcement operation among Chinese, Myanmar, and Thai police to crack down on telecommunication network fraud crimes, another 1,178 Chinese nationals suspected of telecom fraud crimes from the Myawaddy region of Myanmar have been escorted back to China by Chinese police via Thailand.
On November 14, the ministerial meeting to jointly combat telecommunications and network fraud crimes among China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam was held. After the meeting, the countries further deepened international law enforcement cooperation according to the consensus reached during the meeting, carried out joint crackdowns, focused on clearing scam compounds, and made every effort to apprehend personnel involved in telecom fraud. In particular, in response to the severe current situation of Chinese-related telecom network fraud crimes in the Myawaddy region of Myanmar, the police of China, Myanmar, and Thailand once again launched a joint operation. The Myanmar side conducted mass clearing of scam compounds and arrested a batch of individuals involved in telecom fraud.
Since December 1, the Ministry of Public Security has organized Jiangxi police officers to travel to Mae Sot, Thailand, to carry out chartered escort missions. With the assistance of the Thai side, 1,178 Chinese nationals suspected of telecom fraud, repatriated from Myanmar to China, have been escorted back in batches.
According to statistics, since February 20, when China, Myanmar, and Thailand jointly began the operation to repatriate and escort telecom fraud suspects from Myanmar’s Myawaddy region, more than 6,600 Chinese nationals suspected of telecom fraud crimes have been escorted back to China, creating a strong deterrent effect on overseas telecom fraud criminal groups.
