The Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) emphasized that Muslims should clearly understand the important status of Hajj and Umrah in Islam, and urged all parties to be cautious when making statements involving religious affairs, to prevent public confusion and misunderstanding. This response was in regard to a recent media report titled, "Ayer Kunin By-election: Political Victory More Important than Performing Hajj and Umrah."

The department stated on Monday that, to ensure Muslims clearly understand the religious significance of Hajj and Umrah and practice these important religious obligations according to Sharia guidelines, it is working with the Federal Territories Religious Department and other relevant authorities to review related statements."

JAKIM further reminded all public figures and organizations to exercise great caution when addressing religious topics.

"We urge all parties to maintain high sensitivity when making statements involving religious affairs to avoid confusing the public."

The department's Director, Dato' Sri Zulkifli, also emphasized in the statement that the agency will continue to strive to ensure the correct dissemination of religious doctrine and ensure the public can practice their faith on a solid religious foundation.

The PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, made controversial remarks yesterday (20th) in Ayer Kunin, Perak, while campaigning for the Perikatan Nasional candidate, urging Muslims to prioritize achieving victory in national politics, even suggesting postponement of planned Hajj and Umrah trips.

He criticized that some Muslims are more eager to complete their pilgrimage obligations but overlook the importance of gaining national leadership.

"Muslims must prioritize achieving victory in national politics. If necessary, plans to travel to Mecca for pilgrimage can be postponed."

Hadi Awang also cited the Prophet Muhammad's life as an example, stating that it is "the will of God" for Muslims to lead other religious groups politically.

"God does not allow non-Muslims to be superior to Muslims in national governance."
