(Kuala Lumpur, 7th) The 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) and related meetings will be held in Melaka starting tomorrow, making Melaka the focal point of regional security cooperation.
This important meeting will bring together leaders and representatives from ASEAN member countries, Timor-Leste, as well as key dialogue partners such as China, Japan, and South Korea, to jointly address the urgent challenges of transnational crime.
The five-day agenda includes preparatory meetings, high-level discussions, and key consultations, aiming to strengthen regional mechanisms and promote close cooperation in combating various forms of transnational crime.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar will officiate the opening ceremony for AMMTC on Tuesday, during which ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution will deliver speeches.
The core discussions of this AMMTC will commence on Wednesday, with ministers and representatives from various countries engaging in comprehensive dialogues on 24 transnational crime topics. The bilateral meetings on the same day will also allow member countries to hold more focused discussions.
AMMTC leaders and their spouses will be invited to enjoy a relaxing Melaka River cruise cultural tour, while other delegates are free to explore the city’s rich historical heritage.
On Thursday, the meeting’s focus shifts to consultations with dialogue partners, including the 15th AMMTC+3 Consultation, the 12th AMMTC+China Consultation, the 10th AMMTC+Japan Consultation, and the 6th AMMTC+South Korea Consultation. This will be followed by the symbolic handover of the chairmanship from Malaysia to the Philippines.
The meeting will conclude on Friday, with delegates participating in sightseeing tours before departure.
The 19th AMMTC and related meetings are an important part of Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN this year. This year’s theme, “Inclusion and Sustainability,” reflects the nation’s commitment to building a safer and more prosperous ASEAN community.
