Rising Fuel Costs: AirBorneo Tickets to Remain Unchanged for Now

(Kuching, 17th) Despite rising fuel costs, AirBorneo is currently maintaining its original ticket prices without any adjustments.
AirBorneo Chief Executive Officer Megat Ardian Wira stated that the airline is indeed facing a slight increase in operating costs, particularly due to higher fuel expenses, but as AirBorneo bears a social mission to serve the people, ticket prices will temporarily remain unchanged.
He said: "Our mission is in fact a social commitment, especially to ensure continuous smooth transportation links between rural areas. Thus, this service must be maintained."
"In addition, this is also a responsibility that we have to undertake according to the agreement reached with the Sarawak government."
He made these remarks during an interview with reporters after attending an AirBorneo iftar (breaking of fast) dinner with media practitioners in Kuching last night.
He pointed out that any proposal to impose fuel surcharges or increase ticket prices must first be discussed with the Sarawak government.
"This is different from commercial airlines. Commercial airlines usually raise ticket prices when fuel prices rise. So far, our ticket prices have remained unchanged," he said.
He further noted that AirBorneo has already factored in cost increases in its future operational planning, especially the plan to potentially introduce jet aircraft in the future.
Therefore, he said the company is currently studying fuel procurement strategies and related mitigation measures to assess cost impact and manage potential increased expenses.
However, he also pointed out that if there is a need to adjust ticket prices in the future, it will depend on the extent of the fuel price increase and must be decided after consultation with the Sarawak government.
