(Miri, 17th) The Miri Customs Enforcement team recently carried out an operation at Miri Airport, successfully cracking a drug case, arresting a suspect, and seizing approximately 24.486 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated market value of RM783,552.
According to Sarawak Customs Director Dato’ Haji Norazan, the Miri Enforcement team intercepted a man who had arrived at Miri from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at about 5:15 pm on February 27. Acting on intelligence, officers inspected the suitcase he was carrying.
During the inspection, officers found 21 packets of yellow Chinese tea packaging and 3 packs of blue mangosteen product packaging inside the suitcase, all containing suspected methamphetamine crystals. Initial tests showed the drugs weighed about 24,486 grams, with an estimated total value of RM783,552.
The drugs have been confiscated under Section 30(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Authorities pointed out that methamphetamine is a dangerous drug listed in the schedules of this Act.

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect allegedly attempted to use a domestic flight to smuggle drugs from Peninsular Malaysia to Miri.
The case is still under investigation and is being investigated under Section 39B(1) of the aforementioned Act. If convicted, the suspect may be sentenced to death or life imprisonment; if not sentenced to death, not less than 12 strokes of the cane must be imposed.
