(Kuala Belait, 14th) The 2025 Annual Chinese Singing Competition for Chinese Schools in Brunei concluded successfully yesterday amidst enthusiastic applause and cheers at the multifunctional audio-visual lecture hall of Andrew S.C. Huang Memorial High School's Dasheng Humanistic Education Building. The venue was packed, with participants, teachers, parents, and supporters from eight Chinese schools across Brunei gathering in a lively and grand atmosphere.
This competition featured two categories: "Higher Primary Ethnic Chinese Group" and "Non-Ethnic Chinese Group," attracting numerous talented students to participate. The stage was brilliantly lit, the sound effects were powerful, and the contestants confidently took the stage under the spotlight and the audience's gaze, presenting a spectacular musical showdown.
As the competition unfolded, the participating students took the stage one by one to perform. Dressed in neat school uniforms or carefully prepared performance costumes, they sang with concentration and emotional investment. Familiar Chinese hits resonated throughout the lecture hall, some gentle and touching, others powerful and imposing. The audience frequently erupted in applause and cheers, with the judging panel also nodding in appreciation.
In the Higher Primary Ethnic Chinese Group, Li Yuhang from Brunei Chinese High School captivated the entire audience with a deeply emotional performance of "Wish," securing the championship with delicate emotions and solid vocal skills. The runner-up was Xu Anqi from Andrew S.C. Huang Memorial High School, who received unanimous praise for her emotionally rich and vocally stable rendition of "Fairy Tale."
In the Non-Ethnic Chinese Group, Brunei Chinese High School's Zulaika delivered a particularly outstanding performance. With her song "Invisible Wings," she showcased her strong command of the Chinese language and excellent stage presence, rendering the emotions in the lyrics appropriately and fluently. She won unanimous cheers and successfully claimed the championship. The runner-up, Lichier from Andrew S.C. Huang Memorial High School, impressed audiences with her stable stage demeanor and sweet voice.
This competition was not only a platform for showcasing students' singing talents but also a grand event of Chinese cultural exchange. Through their voices, students not only improved their language expression but also fostered friendship and cultural identity among themselves.
The award ceremony was presided over by Xiao Shengzhong, representing the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei. Other attendees included Sun Shengli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of DU Dong Chinese School, as well as school board members, teachers, and parent representatives. The venue was filled with continuous applause and laughter, bringing this vibrant and culturally rich event to a perfect close.
The judges for this competition were Weng Yuanyou, Xu Peihong, and Liu Yuanwei.
