(Seremban, 22nd) — A businessman fell into an online investment scam promising high returns, “investing” nearly RM1.5 million in just 3 months!
The police received a report from the victim, who is in his fifties, at the Pantai Police Station in Negeri Sembilan at 4:22 pm on Monday (21st).
According to Nilai District Police Chief Superintendent Marli, the victim learned about the online investment scheme from a Facebook user on April 29 and was told he could receive high returns.
In a statement on Tuesday, he said the victim then followed the suspect’s instructions and downloaded a mobile application called “CDT MAX.”
“Through 15 transactions, the victim transferred a total of RM1,449,750 into 7 different bank accounts. He only realized he had been scammed when, after attempting to withdraw his funds, he was told he needed to pay additional fees.”
The police are now investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code (cheating) and urge the public to always contact the authorities before participating in any investment activities, and never disclose their banking details to strangers.
