(Bandar Seri Begawan, 15th) Professor Zhang Zhenjiang from the Institute of International Relations/Institute for Overseas Chinese Studies at Jinan University led a five-member academic team yesterday afternoon to visit Brunei’s Teng Yun Temple, conducting academic exchanges and collaborative research.
The focus of the delegation’s visit centered on conducting on-site investigations into the history and current situation of the Chinese overseas community in Brunei, gaining in-depth understanding of the development of local Chinese associations, their social engagement, and lifestyles, as well as promoting knowledge-sharing and scientific cooperation between Chinese and Bruneian academic institutions in the field of overseas Chinese studies.
The team visited Brunei’s Teng Yun Temple yesterday afternoon to hold a discussion and listened to representatives of fellow hometown associations as they shared their insights and opinions regarding the development of the local Chinese community, the social environment, and the contributions of the Chinese community.
Professor Zhang Zhenjiang stated that as a “school for overseas Chinese” in China, Jinan University has long been committed to global overseas Chinese research. This visit aims to further enhance systematic knowledge of the Chinese community in Brunei and provide references for future academic research and policy consultations.
The team hopes that this visit will enhance mutual trust and understanding between China and Brunei, deepen academic ties, and thanked the Bruneian Chinese community for their support and assistance.
