(Bintulu, 22nd) With society’s growing attention to mental health topics, overall public awareness has significantly increased in recent years. However, many groups—especially youths and young professionals—still lack systematic education and guidance on how to properly manage their mental health.
To address this need, the “RAKAN Sarawak ‘Destiny Movers’ 2026 Project: Unveiling Minds, Facing Growth and Flourishing” Mental Health Workshop was held on April 18, 2026 (Saturday) at the hall of Bintulu MARA Junior Science College.
The main goal of this workshop was to turn mental health awareness into daily habits, promoting a more action-oriented approach to physical and mental well-being.
A total of 91 participants attended, including students from several secondary schools, technical training centres, and public institutions of higher learning in Bintulu. This diversity provided broader representation and practical significance to the course.
Participants included: Bintulu MARA Junior Science College (10), Kemena National Secondary School (10), Bintulu National Secondary School (10), MARA Technical and Vocational Education Centre (Bintulu) (24), Bintulu Vocational College (10), Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak Campus (19), and ADTEC JTM Bintulu campus (8).
The first lecture of the workshop focused on “Depression and Stigmatization,” delivered by the MENTARI Bintulu Mental Health Centre and presented by Dr. Muhammad Adeeb (Consultant Psychiatrist, Bintulu Hospital).
This was followed by an interactive segment, during which a 20-minute film clip from the horror movie “Azimat”—produced by Faradale Media-M Sdn Bhd, also one of the workshop organizers—was shown.
The workshop took the narrative of “Azimat” as a reflective framework, guiding participants from reliance on external solutions towards building internal psychological resilience.
Participants learned three core concepts: the “spectrum of human emotions,” “the importance of language,” and “psychological fitness,” and acquired practical mental adjustment strategies for daily life.
Interactive training emphasized maintaining psychological awareness and emotional agility amid busy lifestyles. Participants learned box breathing techniques and “grounding” practices to face stress and stabilize emotions.
Emotional agility training included recognizing the emotional spectrum, distinguishing between ordinary sadness and more complex emotional issues, and responding to stress in healthier ways.
The first interactive session, “Our Inner Roles and ‘Silent Breakdown,’” was hosted by Mohamad Nazwan bin Mohamad Taufik (Yayasan Dee Hati).
The second interactive session, “HeART Space,” was conducted in small groups and facilitated by Anis Wahida binti Amran (Teduh Jiwa Counselling and Consultancy), and ran in parallel with the “Flip the Script” program.
“HeART Space” used artistic expression to help participants process emotions in a safe, non-judgmental way. “Flip the Script” trained participants to convert negative language into more supportive, empathetic forms of expression.
The afternoon session included a group interactive activity, “Exploring The Forging Station,” jointly facilitated by Anis Wahida, Teduh Jiwa’s second counselor Jessynthia Wong anak Robert, and Mohamad Nazwan.
Participants also joined an online chair yoga class, guided by Nur Atiqah binti Abdul Taib (Yayasan Dee Hati).
The finale “Building a Safety Net” included interactive “Safety Network” activities and a “Depression and Suicide Awareness” talk, led by Jessynthia Wong.
Additional activities comprised interactive games and an immersive drama, “Misi Tumbina – Science, Nature, and the Mind.” Thirty Year 1 and Year 2 students from MRSM Bintulu took part, combining natural elements with mental health concepts.
This workshop was supported by sponsorship from Bintulu Port Authority and BIG Pharmacy Bintulu, reflecting both organizations’ commitment to corporate social responsibility and community well-being.
As a port regulatory body and community pillar, Bintulu Port Authority is dedicated not only to operational excellence but also to sustainable development for local community empowerment.
BIG Pharmacy, as a local pharmacy brand, strives to provide affordable and convenient medical services, supporting community well-being with professional pharmaceutical care, health education, and comprehensive health services.
A distinguishing feature of this workshop was the integration of local expertise with evidence-based psychological frameworks, with three main partners co-organizing:
Yayasan Dee Hati: Specializes in grief and loss counseling, offering guidance in emotional recovery and resilience building
Teduh Jiwa Counselling and Consultancy: Focuses on emotional stress management and creative therapeutic methods
MENTARI Bintulu: Community mental health centre, promoting early intervention, responsible reporting, and suicide prevention
All course modules were based on positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles, and holistic health concepts, presented in practical, easy-to-understand, and culturally relevant ways.
