Lin Sijian Visits Chao Junwen to Offer Suggestions, Actively Promotes Miri Tourism Development

(Miri, 22nd) – Sarawak Pakatan Harapan Secretary Lin Sijian recently visited Deputy Minister of the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Chao Junwen at his office in Putrajaya, putting forward several views and suggestions on tourism industry development, and actively striving for the growth of the local tourism sector.

Lin Sijian was there at the deputy minister’s invitation, meeting with his office officials. Both sides extensively exchanged opinions on tourism projects and development related particularly to Miri, with the goal of achieving established work objectives.

He pointed out that in addition to attracting foreign tourists, the authorities should also actively attract domestic tourists and promote “two countries in one place” tourism packages. Given Miri’s excellent geographical location, bordering Brunei, it has favorable conditions for developing cross-border tourism. Such products can be promoted more strongly in the domestic market and, by cooperating with Brunei operators, create a win-win situation.

He emphasized that Miri boasts genuine local hospitality, authentic cuisine, and world-class attractions such as Mulu National Park and Niah National Park. These are major advantages in attracting domestic tourists, especially those from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, and must be promoted and publicized.

Regarding transportation, he revealed that the deputy minister is currently actively negotiating with airline companies. However, due to the surge in oil prices, airlines are facing certain challenges. He hopes the situation will ease soon, so that, with the joint efforts of all parties, more favorable airfares can be provided.

He also pointed out that although 2026 is Malaysia’s Tourism Year, instability in the Middle East may have an impact. Thus, the Ministry of Tourism is actively exploring other markets, especially attracting tourists from China, and hopes that Sarawak will benefit and achieve the set visitor targets.

In addition, Lin Sijian stated that Miri’s local facilities need proper maintenance and upgrading by the local government. This not only concerns the city’s appearance and safety, but also directly affects tourists’ impressions, making cooperation among all parties essential.

He expressed gratitude to Deputy Minister Chao Junwen for his listening and efforts. He remarked that, although Chao must balance nationwide tourism development, since Miri is his constituency, he believes Chao will make every effort to promote the local tourism industry. He also hopes the federal, Sarawak, and local tourism authorities can strengthen cooperation to jointly foster tourism development.
