(Sibu, 19th) — A rented room on the fourth floor of a shoplot in Sibu caught fire yesterday evening, resulting in the tragic death of a 31-year-old woman.
A spokesperson from the Sarawak Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Operations Center stated that the deceased was a tenant of the rented room. She was found lying unconscious in the bathroom and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health (KKM) medical personnel.
He said that authorities received an emergency call at 4:51 pm and immediately dispatched 10 firefighters from the Sibu Fire and Rescue Station to the scene, which is about two kilometers from the fire station.
"The fire involved a rented room on the fourth floor of the shoplot, with an estimated damage of about 60%." he stated in a press release.
He added that the victim's remains were handed over to the police for further action at 7:00 pm, and the rescue operation concluded at 7:55 pm.
