(Kuching, 19th) Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, and Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim, stated that integrity should not be merely a formal requirement, but must be internalized as a core value, reflected in every decision and responsibility undertaken by leaders and civil servants.
Holding two ministerial positions in the Sarawak Cabinet, Abdul Karim pointed out that integrity should not only be mentioned during supervision or audits, but should be embedded in daily behavior and decision-making processes. To this end, he adheres to a prudent and integrity-driven approach, deliberately keeping a distance from any potential conflicts of interest to ensure that the trust given to him by society is maintained transparently.
"When we are in a position of power, various methods of lobbying will emerge, including attempts to offer benefits. Therefore, I ensure that I do not directly participate in procurement matters, but rather leave it to the established systems and committees to handle," he said in an interview with Sarawak TV station TVS.

Abdul Karim made the above remarks yesterday while officiating the opening of the "Community Integrity Building (CIB) – Development Program for Integrity Awareness with the Community" at Dewan Peladang, Kota Samarahan.
As the state assemblyman for Asajaya, Abdul Karim also emphasized that failure to firmly reject corruption will damage personal reputation and public trust.
He said: "Therefore, all individuals, including leaders, civil servants, and community leaders, should perform their duties with high integrity and stay away from any corrupt practices that may harm the reputation and credibility of the institutions they lead."
