A horrifying sexual assault case occurred in India. A woman in her 90s was alone in her rural wooden house when four masked men broke in, gagged her with cloth, beat and sexually assaulted her. Afterwards, they intended to throw her, along with her bed, into a nearby well, leaving her to die, but fled immediately after hearing noises from others nearby. The victim was left exposed outdoors for about 12 hours and was not discovered until the next day.
The elderly woman sustained multiple injuries and was bleeding from her lower body. She notified her daughter, who lived nearby. However, worried about 'family disgrace being exposed,' the daughter tried to treat her mother herself by buying medicine, but the wounds did not improve. She eventually took her mother to the hospital for treatment and reported the crime to the police. After receiving the report, the police formed a special investigation team to pursue the case as a sexual assault and offered a reward of 10,000 rupees (about 430 ringgit) for information leading to the suspects.
The victim was left outdoors, barely alive, for about 12 hours before someone found her covered in blood the next morning (the 6th) while working in the fields and came to her aid. The victim then notified her daughter living in the next village, who rushed over to find her mother with multiple wounds and severe bleeding in her private parts. She cleaned the wounds but, worrying about shame, did not alert the police and only purchased ointment and bandages from a pharmacy to take care of her mother. Because her mother’s condition did not improve, the daughter went to the pharmacy several times that day to buy more medicine, causing the staff to be suspicious. Upon hearing the story, the pharmacy personnel urged that the injured woman be hospitalized.
Seeing that her mother’s injuries were serious, that evening at around 10 p.m., the daughter finally took her mother to the hospital for treatment. Around 2 a.m. the next morning (the 7th), the victim was transferred to a larger hospital, where staff, upon seeing her condition, recommended the family notify police. Fortunately, after treatment, the elderly woman is now out of danger and in stable condition.
