(Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) Member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board attended the 159th Executive Board Meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 25 to 26, 2026.
The Brunei delegation was led by Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Rafidah, accompanied by several senior officials from the Ministry of Health. The WHO Executive Board is composed of 34 member countries, each serving a three-year term, and members are nominated in consultation with the WHO regional committees.
The Executive Board holds meetings twice every year. The first meeting is held at the beginning of the year to finalize the agenda and draft decisions and resolutions to be submitted at the World Health Assembly (WHA).
The second meeting takes place between May and June, after the conclusion of the World Health Assembly, with the aim of implementing the agreed decisions and policies and providing strategic guidance for the comprehensive implementation of all WHO functions.
Brunei is currently serving its term (May 2024 to May 2027) as one of the five member states from the WHO Western Pacific Region on the Executive Board.
This Executive Board meeting (EB159) discussed several key matters, including the outcomes of the 79th World Health Assembly, reports of the Executive Board’s Programme, Budget and Administration Committee (PBAC), the report of the Standing Committee on Health Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (SCHEPPR), as well as issues related to management, governance, and finance.
As a member of the Executive Board, Brunei was also appointed as a member of the Standing Committee on Health Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response.
