The First Tri-State Fujian Golden Melody Competition Successfully Held – Lai Shun Ming and Zhang Xiaoping Crowned King and Queen

(Miri, 10th) Organized by the Miri Zhao'an Association, the inaugural "Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Lee Kim Shin Cup" Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei Fujian Golden Melody Singing Competition for men and women was successfully held yesterday at the 4th floor of the Permaisuri Imperial City Mall in Miri. Lai Shun Ming and Zhang Xiaoping claimed the championships in the male and female categories, respectively.

In her welcoming speech, Organizing Committee Chairperson Shen Yashi said that the purpose of the singing competition was not only to showcase the singers' vocal talents, but more importantly, to strengthen the bonds among fellow countrymen from Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei through Fujian songs, Fujian culture, and shared kinship.

She pointed out that for many people, Fujian songs are more than just music; they carry homesickness, sentiments for one’s hometown, and nostalgic feelings, forming a collective cultural memory. No matter if one comes from Sarawak, Sabah, or Brunei, whenever a familiar Fujian song is played, it often evokes memories of childhood, hometown, parents, and growing up.

Shen Yashi expressed her gratitude to every member of the organizing team, emphasizing that the success of an event is never due to any one individual, but is the result of collective teamwork. She said that from the early preparations to every detail on the event day, committee members worked diligently and selflessly in their respective roles, undertaking the hard work and overcoming difficulties without complaint, all to make the event a true success.

She also thanked all organizing committee members for their support and cooperation, hoping that everyone would continue working hand-in-hand, singing out excellence, emotion, and cherished memories for the tri-state compatriots.
