(Kuala Lumpur, 14th) After two rounds of voting by numerous members of the public, the "2025 Malaysia Annual Chinese Character" has finally been announced today. The character "Tax", which has previously been among the top 10 characters six times, stood out this year to become the character of the year!
Dato’ Ng Heng Chan, Chairman of the Malaysia Annual Chinese Character Organizing Committee, pointed out that the character "Tax", representing taxation, was elected as the character of the year with 29.69% of the votes, and it can be said to be a popular choice.
“Every year's selected annual character closely reflects public sentiment, and this year's 'Tax' is no exception. It shows how tax matters such as the expanded scope of the Sales and Services Tax (SST) have impacted the lives of the people. The recent fervent discussion about the federal government returning 40% net tax revenue to Sabah has also influenced the election situation in Sabah.”
Ng Heng Chan and the committee and judging team for the annual character revealed the “2025 Malaysia Annual Chinese Character” today at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam, Selangor, to guests from both domestic and abroad. Attendees included Datuk Lim Kia Huan, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia, Lee Yick Cheong, Founder of Tian Ma Memorial Hall Group, and Lee Zheng Yang, representative of the main sponsor Tan Sri Chan Kin Soon, among others.
