On the 28th, U.S. President Trump stated that he was "very disappointed" with Russian President Putin and would shorten the previously imposed 50-day deadline for a Russia-Ukraine peace agreement, resetting it to 10 to 12 days in order to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
He made these remarks to the media prior to his meeting with British Prime Minister Starmer in South Ayrshire, Scotland.
He said: "I plan to set a new final deadline starting today—about 10 to 12 days. There is no reason to wait any longer... We are simply not seeing any progress."
On July 14, Trump had previously warned that if Russia and Ukraine did not reach a peace agreement within 50 days, the U.S. would impose "very severe" tariffs on Russia.
Russia Closes 20 Russia-Ukraine Established Border Crossings
In addition, Russian Prime Minister Mishustin recently signed an order to formally close 20 border crossings previously established under bilateral Russia-Ukraine agreements, effective August 1st this year.
The 20 border crossings in question include 13 road crossings and 7 railway crossings. It is reported that some of the crossings are located near border areas such as Luhansk and Donetsk.
In October 2022, Russian President Putin approved treaties for Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson to join the Russian Federation as federal subjects, and signed the relevant legal documents for their admission.
Russian media pointed out that all 20 border crossings involved are currently non-operational.
