(Kuching, 23rd) The Sarawak Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system is about to be implemented, and the issue of weight restriction orders (WRO) on federal highways through which ART routes will pass has become one of the main topics discussed during the recent meeting between the Sarawak Ministry of Transport and the Federal Ministry of Works.

The meeting was held on Monday (22nd) at the Ministry of Works office in Kuala Lumpur, chaired by Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

In a Facebook post, Nanta stated that the meeting also discussed the planning of ART routes crossing the Sarawak federal highway corridor to ensure effective implementation of technical coordination, safety measures, and traffic flow management.

The meeting also reviewed the designs of road traffic signs to be adopted after the launch of the ART system, covering aspects such as safety, standardization, and user comprehension.

Additionally, the ART project team demonstrated a simulation of ART vehicles moving through traffic light intersections on state roads, providing an opportunity for all parties to exchange information and jointly review.

Nanta emphasized that ensuring smooth daily commutes for the public, safeguarding the safety of road users, and developing a more modern public transportation system have always been important priorities in national infrastructure planning, and Sarawak is no exception.

He said: "I highly appreciate the close spirit of cooperation demonstrated in this discussion, which reflects the good collaborative relationship among the private sector, Sarawak government, and the federal government."

"Such coordinated collaboration is crucial to ensure that every infrastructure development plan truly benefits the people, whether they are road users, public transport passengers, local communities, or overall economic activity participants."

Nanta is also the Member of Parliament for Kapit.
