(Miri, 23rd) The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has indicated that many areas in Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds before noon today.
Affected areas include Langkawi in Kedah; Southwest and Northeast districts of Penang; and Klang in Selangor.
In Sarawak, the weather warning covers Saratok and Kabong (both in Betong Division), Sarikei, Mukah, Tatau and Bintulu in Bintulu Division, as well as Subis, Miri, and Marudi in Miri Division.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department stated that when signs of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour appear, and such weather is about to occur or is expected to last for more than an hour, a relevant alert will be issued.
The department pointed out that thunderstorm warnings are a short-term weather forecast, and the effective period from the time of issuance will not exceed six hours.
