(Sibu, 30th) A 57-year-old man suspected of injuring his wife and daughter with a sharp weapon in a house at Jalan Permai Jaya yesterday morning was arrested by police in Kanowit at around 4pm yesterday afternoon.
Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili stated that the suspect was arrested within 24 hours of the incident, thanks to the swift action of the Criminal Investigation Departments (CID) from both Sibu and Kanowit districts.
"We successfully arrested the suspect at about 4:15pm in Kanowit. At around 6am yesterday, the suspect allegedly attacked his 46-year-old wife and 20-year-old daughter with a sharp weapon, then fled to Kanowit on a motorcycle," he told TVS in an interview yesterday.
According to Zulkipli, both victims were seriously injured. The wife is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment in the red zone (intensive care unit) at Sibu Hospital; the daughter is in stable condition.
"The suspect's wife suffered multiple injuries to her neck and body, while the daughter had wounds on her head and arms, suspected to be caused by a sharp weapon," he said.
He added that police also recovered a machete, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, at the scene.
"The case is currently being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons)," he said.
Zulkipli added that police are completing investigation procedures and will apply for a remand order to assist with further investigations.
