Based on maintenance and resolution of safety issues, the Kuala Lumpur Tower has been closed from today (17th) and will reopen promptly.
Communications Minister and Spokesperson of the Unity Government, Dato' Fahmi, stated that once the new concession company, LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd (LSHSM), resolves the two major issues mentioned, the Kuala Lumpur Tower will reopen to visitors promptly.
“The new concession company needs some time to cautiously carry out the related work to ensure the safety of Kuala Lumpur Tower visitors.”
He said this during a weekly press conference held at the Broadcasting Building today. Attendees included Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching, Secretary-General Dato' Mohamad Fauzi, among others.
Fahmi mentioned that the Communications Ministry team inspected the Kuala Lumpur Tower recently and found many issues, including the condition of the equipment in the revolving restaurant's kitchen, which was not comfortable for visitors.
“Additionally, we also found some aspects concerning visitor safety that are worrying and must be addressed immediately, including the railing on the observation deck being lowered.”
Regarding the fate of the 205 staff of the previous concession company, Kuala Lumpur Tower Sdn Bhd (MKLSB), Fahmi said that thus far, 193 have agreed to accept the offer to work under LSHSM.
“According to the service termination notice on December 18 (for MKLSB staff), all 205 staff will end services on March 31, the first day of Eid. Therefore, the Communications Ministry has requested the new company (LSHSM) to retain this group of staff, as they have worked at the Kuala Lumpur Tower for many years and are experienced.”
“One of the main conditions of the offer to these 205 staff is that the salary level offered by LSHSM cannot be lower than what they received at their previous company.”
The Communications Ministry stated in a press release last night that the Kuala Lumpur Tower will temporarily close from today to allow new management to carry out maintenance and enhancement work to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for visitors.
