The Indonesian Ministry of Culture held an event to mark the 71st anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference, with the theme “The Spirit of Bandung: Culture as a Bridge to World Peace,” emphasizing the importance of revitalizing the “Ten Principles of Bandung” in today’s international climate.

Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, stated that the current international situation is full of uncertainties, trust between nations is declining, and conflicts and geopolitical competition are intensifying. Culture plays a critical role in promoting world peace.

He said that to achieve sustainable peace, culture must be protected. “No war should erase a people’s history or suppress their identity.”

He pointed out that under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia will continue to uphold its non-aligned stance, strengthen international cooperation, and safeguard the principles of the United Nations Charter.

During the event, a cultural dialogue was also held. Attendees included Egypt’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Ashraf Hassan Farag El-Shemy, Lydia Hanifa, a member of the DPR’s Tenth Commission, and international relations scholar Anton Ali Abbas.

In addition, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan proposed designating the area from Jalan Lima to Asia-Africa Street as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in order to preserve its historical features.

The commemorative activities also included the launch of the new book “Asia-Africa Conference Photo Album,” as well as a photo exhibition and a historical narrative exhibition. Diplomatic representatives from various countries attended, including Sudan, Cambodia, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, India, and Timor-Leste.

The Ministry of Culture emphasized that these commemorative activities will continue to serve as a platform for cultural diplomacy, promote international cooperation and knowledge exchange, and foster global peace on the foundation of cultural heritage preservation.
