The Philippine Air Force deployed S-70i Black Hawk helicopters to help extinguish a wildfire that has been spreading across grasslands and forests on Homonhon Island, Eastern Samar Province.
The Air Force noted that the helicopter is part of the 8th Tactical Operations Group under the Central Tactical Operations Wing, carrying out firefighting missions in complex terrain and equipped with a ‘bucket’ system for precise aerial water drops.
As of now, the Black Hawk helicopter has completed 9 sorties, playing an important role in controlling the blaze. During the operation, the Air Force closely coordinated with the Eastern Visayas Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the Office of Civil Defense, the Fire Bureau, and local government units in a joint emergency response.
Despite ongoing aerial and ground firefighting efforts, authorities have not yet declared the fire fully under control, and relevant units are still making every effort to suppress the flames.
The Philippine Air Force stated it will continue to coordinate with various agencies until the fire is completely extinguished to ensure public safety.
