Mah Hang Soon: True Colors Revealed After Coming to Power, DAP Gradually Losing Its Principles

(Teluk Intan, 28th) MCA Deputy President and Perak State Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Dr. Mah Hang Soon pointed out that after coming to power, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) has gradually lost the principles and stances it once advocated. In order to stay in power, they continuously search for excuses and justifications for their policy failures, and now their "true colors have been revealed," with the people seeing this more and more clearly.

He made these remarks while officiating the 2026 MCA Teluk Intan Division Delegates' Conference on Sunday, stating that the most important qualities for a political party are integrity and principles, not constantly changing positions for the sake of power.

He said that while DAP once called for reform, fairness, and government oversight, today, when faced with myriad livelihood issues raised by the people, they keep defending their failures and do not mention their past promises at all.

“A party without principles or a clear stance will ultimately lose the trust of the people.”

Mah Hang Soon noted that from the recent Johor by-election nomination situation, it is evident that the opposition's support has visibly declined, with fewer supporters on site, reflecting that people have begun to rethink whether the so-called "reforms" have really been fulfilled.

“As the ancients said: Water can carry a boat, but it can also overturn it. The people can bring a party to power, but they can just as easily bring it down.”

He pointed out that the political phenomena seen in the Sabah state election serve as the best example—people have begun to express dissatisfaction through their votes, which should serve as an important warning to all political parties.

Mah Hang Soon emphasized that MCA has always been deeply rooted in the Chinese community and has served the people, never forgetting its roots and never sacrificing principles for government positions.

“We come from the Chinese community, and we come from the people. Therefore, we must continue to stand firm and bravely speak up for the people.”

On the other hand, MCA Teluk Intan Division Chairman Kong Soon Jin stated in his speech that what disappoints the people most today is not the competition between parties, but that some parties, in order to stay in power, do not hesitate to abandon the principles and stances they have always upheld.

“DAP has always criticized others in the past, but now that it is their turn to govern, they keep explaining on behalf of the government, making excuses for policy failures, and even displaying double standards, which greatly disappoints the people.”

He said a party can adjust its strategies, but must never lose its principles; it can cooperate, but must never forget its promises to the people for the sake of positions.

Kong Soon Jin said that although MCA faces many challenges, it has always adhered to serving the people, safeguarding Chinese education, supporting SMEs, and protecting the interests of the Chinese community, and will not change its original intention based on whether or not it holds government positions.

He called on all party members to continue uniting, to go deep among the grassroots, to listen to the voices of the people, and with concrete actions, to win back the people's trust.

During the conference, the delegates carried out enthusiastic discussions on party affairs, politics, economy, education, and culture, and after thorough debate, unanimously passed four conference resolutions, including strengthening the MCA's independent path, actively expanding grassroots organizations, being fully prepared for the national elections, and seeking to have MCA contest the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat again to provide more effective services and oversight for the people; actively supporting Chinese SMEs, accelerating digitalization and industrial upgrading for enterprises, helping local businesses transform and develop, and enhancing competitiveness.

Resolutely defending the development of Chinese education, requesting the government to quickly resolve the shortages of teachers and educational resources in Chinese primary and independent high schools, and continuing to safeguard the rights and interests of Chinese education; promoting harmony and integration in multiculturalism, maintaining the country's multicultural characteristics, firmly opposing any form of extremism, racism, and religious fanaticism, and jointly safeguarding national unity and social stability.

The conference unanimously called on all party members to continue to hold fast to their faith, remain united, actively reach out to the grassroots, serve the people, rebuild the people's confidence in the MCA, and go all out in facing the upcoming national elections—to strive for a better future for the country, for the people, and for the Chinese community.
