On the 8th, U.S. President Trump announced on social media that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the American-proposed first phase of the Gaza "peace plan."
He stated that this means all Israeli personnel held captive will soon be released, and Israeli troops will withdraw to lines agreed upon by both sides, "as a first step toward solid, lasting, and permanent peace."
He noted that all parties will be treated "fairly."
Trump also thanked Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their efforts as mediators, saying that representatives from these countries worked together with the U.S. side to make this "historic" event a reality.
Shortly thereafter, Egypt's Cairo News TV reported that mediating parties such as Egypt and Qatar announced that a new round of Gaza ceasefire talks had reached an agreement encompassing all terms and implementation mechanisms for the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, and confirmed that the final version of the agreement is currently being drafted.
Hamas and the Israeli Prime Minister's Office each released statements confirming that the agreement had been reached.
