An elderly woman was out walking her son's dog when she accidentally fell in a dark corner. The dog continuously ran to the street seeking help, then kept returning to check on the elderly woman. Finally, it successfully led police to find her. This devoted dog, who refused to leave the woman’s side, even earned praise from the police: “Sometimes, a hero can have four legs and a wagging tail.”
Michelle Nicholson, spokesperson for the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office in Florida, told USA Today reporters that on the evening of September 25, a man called the police, saying his 86-year-old wife had gone out for a walk with their son's dog, Grey, and had not returned. Normally, she never stayed out for more than 10 to 15 minutes, but she had been gone for almost an hour, so her husband had no choice but to call for help.
Deputy Miller was on routine patrol and, after learning the situation, began searching the neighborhood streets. She spotted the dog but did not see the elderly woman. She tried to bring the dog home, but it refused to go with her. So the deputy asked the dog to lead her to the woman.
Sure enough, in the dark street, the dog led Deputy Miller straight to the woman.
“I’ve found you, ma’am,” Miller said when she saw the woman sitting on the ground. “Can you tell me what happened?”
“It brought you to me?” the woman asked. “It just wouldn’t leave and kept coming back to me… I’m not even its owner, I’m the owner’s mother. Oh, Grey, you are such a good child.” The woman lovingly patted the dog.
The sheriff’s office later confirmed that the lady had fallen and injured herself while walking her son's dog. She was conscious at the time, had hurt her leg but was not in any life-threatening danger, and was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
“It was thanks to this loyal four-legged friend that the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputy was able to find the elderly lady.”
