(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) Last night, Brunei held the grand pre-launch ceremony for “Visit Brunei Year 2027” at Jerudong Park, officially kicking off the national tourism promotion plan. The event was officiated by Foreign Minister Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and his spouse. Several cabinet ministers, foreign diplomats stationed in Brunei, representatives from the tourism industry, and media members were also in attendance. The event featured cultural dance performances, themed presentations, promotional videos, and a drone light show, comprehensively showcasing Brunei’s rich cultural heritage, pristine natural environment, and diverse tourism resources.
Government officials responsible for coordinating the plan stated that “Visit Brunei Year 2027” is not just a tourism promotion campaign, but also an important strategy for driving the country's economic diversification. It is hoped that by attracting more international tourists, enhancing Brunei’s international reputation, and promoting the development of local businesses and communities, the role of tourism in the national economy will be further strengthened. Meanwhile, authorities also encourage Bruneians to rediscover lesser-known attractions and cultural features across the nation, support local industries, and jointly create a high-quality tourism experience.
During the ceremony, the official logo and two mascots, “Awang” and “Dayang”, for “Visit Brunei Year 2027” were unveiled to the public for the first time, symbolizing the official start of nationwide tourism promotion efforts. The official theme song and a promotional short film were also played on site, with a special focus on Brunei’s unique Malay Islamic Monarchy culture, well-preserved tropical rainforest ecology, and various distinctive tourism experiences. The highlight of the evening, a drone performance, lit up the night sky with the event logo, mascots, and several Brunei landmarks, adding a spectacular finale to the event.
In addition, organizers presented the preliminary calendar for “Visit Brunei Year 2027”, which includes the much-anticipated 60th anniversary diamond jubilee celebration of the Sultan’s reign, as well as a range of major events spanning culture, sports, business, and lifestyle. The full schedule will be announced in phases and promoted through various domestic and international channels.
As an important next step in international promotion, Brunei will participate in Travel Meet Asia 2026 in Jakarta from June 23rd to 24th as the official destination partner, fully introducing “Visit Brunei Year 2027” to regional and international tourism industry professionals. This series of initiatives demonstrates that Brunei is actively seizing the major opportunity presented by the Sultan’s 60th anniversary in 2027 to accelerate tourism development, enhance the nation’s international image and competitiveness, and establish tourism as a key growth engine for future economic diversification.
