(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) The Brunei Ministry of Health and the Indonesian Ministry of Health held a signing ceremony yesterday at the Empire Hotel conference hall, formally signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on health cooperation to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries in the field of healthcare.
The MOU was signed by Brunei's Minister of Health, Dato Seri Setia Dr. Mohd Isham, on behalf of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam; while Indonesian Minister of Health Budi signed on behalf of the Indonesian government.
This signing marks a new milestone in the long-standing friendly bilateral relations between Brunei and Indonesia, especially in the area of health cooperation. The MOU not only updates the existing official health cooperation mechanism between the two countries, but also provides a more comprehensive framework for the future expansion and deepening of strategic cooperation.
According to the contents of the MOU, both parties have agreed to strengthen cooperation in several key areas, including primary health care, medical services, health resilience building, health financing systems, development of health human resources, as well as health technology.
This MOU reflects the two countries’ shared commitment to continuously strengthen their respective health systems through mutually beneficial cooperation, while also supporting regional and global efforts to improve population health and well-being.
Brunei Ministry of Health officials who attended and witnessed the signing ceremony included Acting Permanent Secretary Dr. Rafidah, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Management) Pengiran Mohd Kairulddin, the Director-General of Health Services, department heads, and other senior officials.
Attendees from the Indonesian side included Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Professor Ahmad Ubaidillah, Deputy Minister and Director-General of Human Resources for Health Yuli Fariyanti, President of Surabaya Hospital Martha Siahaan, Head of the Centre for Global Health Strategy and Governance Policy Hadya Suryawanto, and Indonesian Minister of Health's Executive Assistant Palmi Meliala, among others.
Both sides stated that, taking the signing of this MOU as an opportunity, they will further deepen cooperation in the health sector, jointly improve the level of health services and people's well-being in both countries, and make a positive contribution to the development of regional public health.
