French President Macron posted on social media on the 24th, stating that France will officially announce its recognition of the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly to be held in September this year.
He stated that the immediate priority is to end the war in Gaza and save civilians. There must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of all detainees, and the provision of large-scale humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.
He also believes that it is necessary to ensure the demilitarization of Hamas, as well as the security and reconstruction of Gaza. Ultimately, a Palestinian state must be established and its viability ensured, so that it can participate in regional security affairs in the Middle East on the premise of accepting demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel.
Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez expressed his welcome regarding France's move.
He wrote on social media: “Welcome to France for joining the ranks of Spain and other European countries that have recognized the State of Palestine.”
He stated, “We must jointly safeguard everything that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is attempting to destroy,” and that the “two-state solution” is the only way out for resolving the Palestinian issue.
Since the outbreak of the latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October 2023, Spain, Norway, Ireland, Slovenia, and several non-European countries have announced their recognition of the State of Palestine.
