At 7:37 a.m. today, a strong earthquake struck the Samoa Islands region with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department stated in a press release that the epicenter was located at 14.7° south latitude and 175.8° west longitude, with a depth of 302 kilometers, approximately 714 kilometers northeast of Lautoka, Fiji.
According to a preliminary assessment, this earthquake poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
