(Miri, 20th) — In conjunction with the 2025 Sarawak Day celebrations, a vibrant Zumba health dance event was grandly held this morning at the Miri Indoor Stadium, attracting about 1,500 members of the public to join the festivities.
Sarawak Minister of Transport and State Assemblyman for Senadin, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, was present to officiate the opening ceremony. In his speech, he encouraged everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle and work together toward the “Sarawak Maju Makmur” (Sarawak Towards Prosperity) vision.
He said that Sarawak Day is not only a commemoration of a historic day but also symbolizes the spirit of unity, diversity, and autonomy. Today's Zumba event demonstrates the festival spirit at the grassroots level and gathers the participation and recognition of people from different races and age groups.
“The meaning of Sarawak Day is not just to look back at history but also to symbolize our joint effort as we move toward the future. Activities like today, which are healthy, energetic, and without barriers, are the best way to carry on the spirit.”

As the minister in charge of the Sarawak Day celebrations, Lee Kim Shin also pointed out that Zumba, as an activity suitable for all ages, body types, and backgrounds, can not only promote physical and mental health but also create a positive and active social space to strengthen community cohesion.
He emphasized, “Sarawak Towards Prosperity is not just about the pursuit of infrastructure or economic development. It should also encompass the people’s health, harmony, and a high quality of life.”
“A strong Sarawak must begin with a healthy people. Children need to be healthy to learn; youth need to be energetic to build; seniors need to be happy so that society is warm.”
He called for health-promoting activities like Zumba to continue in communities, making them part of everyone’s everyday life, especially encouraging young people to come out of their homes, stay away from electronic devices, and take actual steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
