Cecilia Cheung has two sons, Lucas and Quintus, with her ex-husband Nicholas Tse. After their divorce, she spent many years raising them alone, and in 2018, welcomed her third son, Marcus. She spoke candidly about her parenting style on a show, which resonated with many viewers.
The Chinese variety show “Blossoms All the Way 2” invites numerous award-winning actresses for recording and has remained a hot topic. In the latest episode, Cecilia Cheung shared her educational philosophy, immediately striking a chord with many netizens and earning praise as a good mother.
During casual conversation on the show, Carina Lau asked Cecilia Cheung whether she reasons with her children or simply scolds or hits them while teaching. Cecilia pondered for a moment and replied: “I seldom scold children, but I speak frankly, and I always add, ‘Once you’ve made your decision, you need to bear the consequences.’”
Carina Lau pressed further, “What if he does something wrong?” Cecilia answered, “If he makes a mistake, I’m okay with it, because I believe that without making mistakes, you can’t improve.” She went on to explain that sometimes when children’s lives are too smooth, she actually worries more. By contrast, when her son comes home and says, “Mom, I didn’t play basketball well or I couldn’t win,” she actually feels happy. “Because if you play very well and win every game, so what? You’re just playing for the sake of playing; he’s not learning anything from it. I would rather his path be a bit tougher.” She believes that children need to experience a certain level of frustration.
