Empowering Sarawak’s Young Entrepreneurs to Reach Greater Heights: The Junior Chamber Platform Connects Resources and Creates Business Opportunities

(Miri, 10th) – Sarawak Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCCI) Junior Chamber Chairman, Lawyer Hu Wentai, stated that true business opportunities are not just about making money or developing new ventures, but stem from connections between people, resource integration, and the ability of young entrepreneurs to proactively step out, and expand their collaborative prospects.

He made these remarks while delivering his speech at the '2026 Miri Junior Chamber Night' dinner last night, held at the Palace Hotel Banquet Hall by the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce Junior Chamber.

Hu Wentai pointed out that the theme of this year’s dinner, ‘Miri · Business Opportunities’, is deeply meaningful. For young entrepreneurs, ‘business opportunities’ are always attractive, but the key lies in how to turn opportunities into actual results through communication and collaboration.

He said that Sarawak covers a vast area, from Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu to Miri, and each place has its unique strengths and outstanding entrepreneurs. If one limits oneself to development within their own city, the resources they can access will be very limited.

“Therefore, the greatest value of the Junior Chamber is not just hosting events, but building a platform where young entrepreneurs from all over Sarawak, and even from Peninsular Malaysia, can get to know each other, share experiences, share resources, and create business opportunities together.”

He expressed that during his term, he hopes to further bridge the connectivity among young entrepreneurs from different regions, promote resource mobility and collaboration, and harness the collective strength of the Junior Chamber network.

He emphasized that an individual's resources and the power of a single company are limited, but a strong Junior Chamber network can create infinite possibilities.

Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Junior Chamber Deputy Leader and Bintulu Chamber Junior Chamber Leader Hu Wentai also encouraged the young entrepreneurs present to actively expand their networks, not to confine themselves to familiar circles, but to get to know new friends, exchange name cards, and learn about each other's business development, as future collaborative opportunities often arise from present interactions.

“You never know – the person sitting beside you may become your customer, your partner, or even someone with whom you jointly create a business in the future.”

He also pointed out that Sarawak is currently seeing a surge of development opportunities. Whether in infrastructure, energy, tourism, manufacturing or services, fresh opportunities are continually emerging, but these only belong to those who are willing to take action, learn, and collaborate.

At the same time, he stressed that young entrepreneurs should not only manage their own enterprises well, but also think about who will take over in the future, leading Sarawak’s business community to higher levels.

“The Junior Chamber is not just a platform for business, but also a cradle for cultivating the next generation of business leaders. We need young leaders who have vision, a sense of responsibility, integrity, and a willingness to give back to society.”

Hu Wentai shared three statements to encourage his Junior Chamber partners: “An individual can go fast, a group can go far, but a group with a common purpose can go higher and farther.” He called on everyone to join hands to connect Miri’s business opportunities to the whole of Sarawak, and then to the national and even international stage, and together, create an era belonging to Sarawak’s young entrepreneurs.
